Why I Don't Have Cable

So, I was listening to the radio last night and heard about a new show debuting on FX called "4 Oz." It's just your typical story "about a married-dad gynecologist practicing with his father who undergoes a sex-change operation."

Why? Why does this need to be the framework of a television drama?

Garbage in, garbage out.

I think the only thing that gets ratings for t.v. broadcast stations anymore is shock value. Shock value being how much an action, belief or other concept rises above either what you have seen and become accustomed/desensitized to, or something that is strikingly anti what-you-value. So, that's the new war...to get people to tune in for shock value, whether it's all made up, or not.
