It Wouldn't Surprise Me

It wouldn't surprise me if after a year into the presidential campaign, the frontrunners in each party (Clinton and Obama, McCain and Guiliani) so mortally bludgeon each other that a dark horse emerges from the outside with 9-12 months before the elections.

you would not be alone. There was an article on CNN just yesterday that voiced the same opinion.
"The rule in politics is that when Candidate A and Candidate B start attacking each other, the benefit goes to Candidate C.

"If Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama were engaged in a day-in, day-out bashing of each other, I think it probably would help somebody like John Edwards, who could stand above the fray and act presidential," Rothenberg said. "But we're a long way from that."
While I think that Kerry is dead on arrival with the democratic party, I think someone could certainly come and steal the show.
Here is the link to that article incase anyone wants to read the full article.

They were commenting the same thing on NPR. One of the "experts" mentioned Al Gore as the candidate who would step in though even his counterparts on the show responded with a surprised laugther.

Hmm, and would this "dark horse"'s first name rhyme with "root"? :)
